There was something about him that made me return to him. Every night I would knock on his door and he would open it like he was waiting for me. Like he knew I would come.

I must be under a spell. That could explain my behaviour.

Which would only conclude... Ryo Nishikido must be a witch.

Tonight was no different. I finished work and rushed to the station to catch the train to his apartment which was few stops from my work place but eleven stops from my home.

I would be tired after a long day at work but the only way I knew how to relax was in his arms after we made love for what seems forever. I could never get over his taste. It was intoxicating.

I sometimes wondered if it would be more practical to move in with him since I was always over at his place. But he never asked. Never showed any concerns.

Was I the only one who wanted him? Did he not want me too?

I couldn't blame him. Really.

I was plain. Boring. While he was handsome. Social. Rich. Though his wealth was not what I really cared about. Not like a dime was ever used on me.

I bought him a lot of things for any occasions. I didn't know if he ever liked it. He never said anything. Just kissed me once he finished unwrapping.

I knocked on his door and waited. And waited. I frowned. It was weird. He would rush to open the door for me. In fact this was the best part of my day because I would image him waiting for me like he couldn't wait to see me. A girl could let her imagine run wild once in a while.

He never opened the door even after an hour. It was then I realised. He never gave me a spare key. Which made me then realise I did not have his number to call him and ask him where he was.

We only met a few months ago. I was forced to go to a group date with my friend. She had been worried that I stopped dating guys for over a year since my ex-boyfriend had dumped me...

“Come on,” my best friend, Carrie, pleaded. She pulled me out of the car.

“I really don’t want to meet random guys in a group date.”

“You won’t meet any guys full stop,” she pointed out. “I’m not asking you to find a boyfriend in there. I want you to start thinking of dating again.”

I sighed. “Fine. But if I won’t promise you anything.”

She beamed happily. “Let’s go in. We’re already five minutes late.”

He wasn’t in the group of guys I went to meet with my friend. He was sitting at a nearby table at the cafe talking business with a client.

I didn’t like anyone from this group date. Maybe because I already had my eye on him ever since I stepped inside the cafe. I’d steal glances at him occasionally. Whenever I was caught by his gaze, I’d blush and avert my eyes away.

It was after the group date was over and my friends were already paired up leaving me with one that looked shady. I had to wonder just where these guys came from and if any of what they said were true.

I reluctantly left the cafe with him. My gaze on the business man lingered until I was out of the cafe.

“Where shall we go?” the partner I was forced with said.

“Sorry but I’m going home now.” I turned on my heels and made my way down the street.

“Wait,” he jogged up to me. “How about you invite me for coffee.”

I was disgusted. There was no way I was going to let him in my apartment. “I have work tomorrow so I need to go home and in bed.”

“Oh come on!” he was not taking no for an answer. “You’re just playing hard to get. We all know you’ve haven’t had a boyfriend for a long time and you’re desperate now.”

I was fuming by the time he finished. Desperate? I stopped and swung around to face him. “I chose to stay single so I don’t meet jerks like you! So please leave me alone!”

He was still persistent. He grabbed my wrist tightly. I tried to pry it out of his grip with no veil. “Stop playing,” he said though his teeth. “I know you want me. You were looking at me throughout the whole date.”

“No, I wasn’t!” I cried out. I tugged on my wrist. “Let me go! You’re hurting me!”

“Let her go.”

A new voice startled the both of us. I was grateful for a distraction because the guy loosened his grip. I used the opportunity to retrieve my hand and then rush behind the stranger who decided to help me.

“Who the hell are you?” my horrible date demanded.

“The one she was really looking at throughout your date,” he responded smugly.

I gasped at his words. I finally looked up to my saviour and realised he was the businessman from back in the cafe. My gaze fell shamefully.

“What the hell!” my horrible date was not pleased. “If you had someone, you shouldn’t have come to a group date, bitch!”

I was appalled being called a bitch.

“I think you shouldn’t have come to a group date when all really wanted was a one night stand,” my saviour defended me. “Why don’t you run along before I really make you pay for calling the lady a bitch?”

The other guy seemed to have gotten spooked. He backed away, and then hastily walked away. I peeked up at the business man and saw the dark look he had on his face. He must have noticed me staring because he looked over his shoulder to meet my gaze.

A blush rose to my cheeks. “Th-thank you.”

His expression lightened and he smiled at me. “No worries. I think you should choose your partner wisely next time.”

“Yeah...” I said blowing a breath of air. “I just won’t come to these things again. I can’t thank you enough. By any chance, is there a way to repay you?”

“How about a coffee?”

I was stunned. Did he want me to invite him - a total stranger - to my apartment? It seemed that he already guessed what was going through my mind because he began chuckling.

“I don’t mean at your place,” he assured me. “Let’s go back to the cafe.”

“Oh,” I said trying to hide my embarrassment. I cleared my throat. “I’m Sally Canon, by the way.”

“I’m Ryo Nishikido.”

“Ryo Nishikido of the Nishikido Financial Group?” I gasped in shock.

He chuckled again. “You know me?”

“Well... a little since I work in a bank,” I explained.

Ryo nodded. “Come on, we can get to know more about each other at the cafe.”

“But weren’t you with a client?”

“He’s gone,” he responded, purposely ignoring that I had taken into account that he was there for business. “I’m free now.”

I smiled at him. “Okay then. I’m buying though as my repayment.”

He returned a smile. “Only the first round.”

My jaws hung low at his words. First round? That meant they’d be spending time together for longer than I had expected. Truthfully, I was happy. I wanted to know more about this handsome stranger.

I just didn’t think I would be bold enough to go home with him and spend the night with him.

That is how our relationship started. If you would call it a relationship, that is.

Another hour later I was still waiting for Ryo. I began thinking if I was just someone who was there to satisfy his needs and useless for everything else.

I didn't wait for the next hour. Feeling depressed, I began walking down the apartment building and then out.

Just as I was heading for the station, a dishevelled Ryo came running down the street. I watched in shock as he was coming towards me. Towards me!

"Sally," he breathed out once he stopped in front of me.

I gulped. It wasn't like I could say anything. I was shocked. I've never seen him like this before. His hair was a mess from the wind plus the running. He was out of breath. He was not like his cool stoic self.

"Sally," he was calling my name again. My heart was beating fast now. "I'm sorry I'm late. Are you leaving?"

I nodded, still not trusting my voice.

"I'm here now. You can stay at my place."

I wanted to say yes. After seeing him like this, I wanted to be with him longer. But I shook my head and said, "No."

"Why?"

I sighed. "As I was waiting I realised something's about us. We're just using each other for sex. And I'm paying for rent when I'm hardly over at my place."

"Then move in with me."

His sudden proposal caught me off guard. "Excuse me?"

"Move in with me, Sally."

I allowed his words to sink in before opening my mouth. "You suddenly want me to move in just because I brought up the subject?"

I hated it. I didn't want to force him to make the decision. I needed to know he wanted this more than me.

"No, it's not all of a sudden," he said. "I've always wanted to ask but I never knew how to. I was afraid you would say no."

"I was waiting for you to ask me for a long time."

Ryo scratched the back of his head and blew out an exasperating breath. "I really suck at relationship. I never did have a good one," he admitted, cracking a small smile. "All my relationship ended because I was too clingy or didn't give them enough space. When I met you, I just knew I met my soul mate. As mushy or corny as it sounds, I fell for you the moment I laid my eyes on you. I couldn't afford to lose you so I tried my best not to make the mistakes I made previously. I wanted to give you enough space as you wanted."

"I'm not like your ex's," I told him.

"I know that now."

"I want you to be clingy to me. I want to move in with you. I want your phone number and your spare key. I want to feel like we're a couple not just two people together just for sex."

"I want that too."

A smile crept up on my lips. I had always felt like I was left out of his life. I had no idea it was his way of keeping me. He had a lot to learn about me. And I planned to tell him. I won't keep quiet anymore, now that I know his feelings.

"Sally," he said, suddenly becoming hesitant.

"Yeah?" I became wary if he was changing his mind. I really wanted to move in. And I'm not saying this so I could save money. That's just part of the reason.

"You do love me too, right?"

I let out a breath of air that I didn't know I had been holding. I smiled. "Yes, I love you, Ryo. I have been since the beginning. That's the only explanation I could think of coming to you every night. Unless I was bewitched by you."

He chuckled. "I feel the same way about you."
